At an evening service at Henderson Hills Baptist Church, a young man wandered off the street looking for comfort and stumbled into a testimony night about addiction. Afterward, he handed a pastor his needle and shared about his addiction and need for help. With that encounter, God made it clear that recovery ministry was needed at MOJ. In 2009, Recovery Ministry began, and countless lives have found freedom since.
Lisa had struggled with prescription drug dependency for years, hiding her problem from family and friends. “I thought church people would judge me,” she admits. “But at Celebrate Recovery, I found people who understood exactly what I was going through. I learned that my addiction didn’t define me – God’s love does. I’ve been clean for three years now and sponsor other women finding their way to freedom.”
When David entered recovery, his wife Maria felt lost and angry. Through the support Celebrate Recovery offer the family she learned how addiction affects the whole family. “I thought I was helping him, but I was enabling him,” Maria shares. “Recovery taught us both healthy boundaries and how to love each other without trying to fix each other. Our marriage is stronger now that we are in recovery together”
